 Vocation Committee:

A woman from St. Michael's Cary, who is in charge of fostering vocations,

had expressed an interest in meeting with Sr. Joanna regarding vocation promotion.

Goals of the Council:

        a) Msgr. Shugrue has formed a new committee which appears to be an attempt

to develop more collaboration between groups in the diocese and diocesan

offices; to support each other; and no overlap

         b) This committee has not met yet; but in the report to Msgr. last month, Mary

Ann and Barbara Marie mentioned that, even though our Enrichment Day

has been on the Diocesan Calendar for 2 years, another group scheduled

a major activity on the same day.

          c) Because the Council is only 8 members … we will spend the next meeting

looking at  - how do we structure the Council with fewer members? how

can we best network and communicate? how can we be open to where we

are? what do we see as our place in the diocese? how will be articulate

                  this for the new bishop?

Mary Jean will send a list of Council Members to Ruby for the “Blue

                        Book.”

 Retirement Fund for Religious:

     a) Stats worthy of reflection …

692 Religious Communities send information to the National Office.

              On these ….

139 are able to fund less than 20% of their retirement needs

314 are able to fund between 20 and 80%

239 are able to fund over 80%.

Of the 195 diocese in the US …. 175 do the appeal and 8 do local appeals

     b) The Collection will end after the 2007 collection.

 New Business:

     a) Barbara Marie will continue as co-chair for the next 6 months; and they

evaluate this in light of her new position as a Community Counselor

     b) Mary Jean will take minutes as serve as treasurer

     c) Marilyn and Mary Jean will pen a letter from Council to Bishop Gossman in

support of his “love stance” on the issue of communion to politicians who

           disagree with church teachings.

Next meeting: Wednesday, Nov. 10th, 1 p.m. at the Catholic Center(Mary Ann will

check on a place for the meeting)
