Council of Religious Meeting
April 29, 2010
A.
Council members gathered for an end
of the year lunch at Amedeo’s to say “thank you” to all, especially
those leaving the Council.
B.

Walsh, Chris Gellings, Gerry Megel, Jeanne Morgan, Mary Agnes Ryan,

A “thank you” for his first year of
presence as a “token sister” on Council was given to Msgr. Jerry.

Update from the Community Relations
Committee was given by Sr. Joanne….
-a
conference call meeting was held using the Diocesan Conference call
number; 4 members were part of the meeting
-Sr.
Laura has been joining the “Women Praying for Vocations” group
-Sr.
Laura will be helping Fr. Ned to start a program for High
School students
-Sr.
Evelyn is looking at how we might become connected with the “St.
Andrew Dinners” held in connection with the monthly Vocation Holy
Hour for men interested in priesthood
-Sr.
Joanna will be connecting with the “retreat day for parish
vocation liaisons” to see how we might work with them to promote
vocations
-Sr.
Rose is gathering materials from the communities in the Diocese
to set up a literature rack at the Vocation Office and perhaps move
toward a display board that might travel to the site of the Vocation
Holy Hour. Only
6 communities have supplied materials so far!
-Sr.
Lois will meet with Msgr. Brockman about the possibility of …
…Monthly article in NC Catholics featuring sisters as is done with
priests
…November article on “consecrated life” in preparation for the
National Retirement Collection
-Sr.
Joanna said that a DVD is available from the NCCB called “Jesus
calls Women”;
it
is worth viewing

Council Elections notes …
- New members are: Sr. Rosemary McNama, SU; Sr. Kieran
Williams, IHM
and Sr. Theresine Gildea, OP. They will join the
Council for the August
meeting
-the election was conducted completely on-line; there was greater
participation than
last year; 21 sisters were nominated; 9 accepted the nomination
-suggestion was made to include pictures of nominees next time (this
could not be done this time because we did not have pictures of all
the nominees)

Update on the Religious Retirement Collection from Sr. Anne Heath …
-total collected was: $188,244.58; this was $2000 over
last year but less
than 2005. 2006, and 2007.
-the parishes where a Sister spoke all showed an
increase over last year
-the next step will be to increase our speaker pool to
perhaps include the
members of a parish who have religious in their family
and would be
willing to speak on behalf of religious
-looking for a way to tie this event to vocations also

September Overnight Appreciation Day and Jubilee…Sept. 24-25
-a committee was formed to make final plans; members
are Srs. Chris,
Lois, Jeanne, Barbara Marie, and Mary Jean; the
committee will meet
at on July 1 and CGHS
-a deposit has been placed for the rooms needed
-a professional photographer will be present to take
pictures of all the sisters.
I. Msgr. Sherba announced the retirement of Sr. Margaret
Gallagher, IHM in June. A farewell is being planned by St. Joseph
the Worker Community for June 24th. Msgr. Jerry
will get back to us as soon as more details are available

K. Opening meeting for the new year which will include new Council
Members and the Bishop is scheduled for August 19th,
12:30-3 at the
Catholic Center. |
