B. Committee Reports…
1. Issues and Answers… this committee has had no communication
since the last meeting. They thought they would meet today but
did not. They will be in touch with each other before the next
meeting.
2. Community Relations… this committee is putting together an
article on the jubilee celebration. So far we have 3 jubilarians:
Sr. Mary McGrath – 50, Sr. Joan Jurski – 50, Sr. Mary Agnes
Scalero – 50. (Sr. Mary will not be present for the Diocesan
celebration. She will be in Europe with her family…..their jubilee
gift to her.) Sr. Mary Therese will write the article for the
NC Catholic
- committee is also in the midst of preparing vocation info for
the website – info will be there soon
- Sr. Mary Therese will talk to M. Castle regarding the atten-
dance of sisters at the Young Adults retreat. M. Castle wants
sisters only if they can stay the whole weekend. Since many
of us have weekend responsibilities that leaves very few sisters
available. We will try to negotiate this with M. Castle.
- committee is also exploring information about national
vocation days.
3. Celebrations – Sr. Loretta Jean is still working on a complete
list of jubilarians for 2003.
- the focus of the celebration will be a “Celebration of Religious
Life”. The NC Catholic article will reflect that.
Sr. Loretta Jean
will get info and Sr. Mary Therese will write the article.
- Sr. Janet will take care of flowers and
pictures
- Sr. Loretta Jean will type program and assist Sr. Mary Jean
with the invitations
- one of the jubilarians will do the reflection
- liturgy music planning is underway
- Sr. Barbara Marie will do the ‘welcome” before the liturgy
- Gift certificates will be given to the jubilarians.
- Dates for future Enrichment Days….
Sept. 20, 2003 Sr. Melannie Svoboda, SND at
Cardinal Gibbons High School
Sept. 18, 2004 Sr. Doris
Klein, SA
C. Task Force Report….Sr. Mary Margaret
- the Task Force seems to be struggling with its identity and
task- to establish an Office of Women
- the membership numbers about 8
- one of the 3 co-chairs has resigned because of health
- they are working with the diocese to become a recognized
group(This recognition is a question since the group has
existed as a recognized group since the days of the DPC.)
- Sr. Mary Margaret and Sr. Mary Jean remain part of the
task force at this time. (Sr. Mary Jean will give report at
the February meeting.)
D. Discussion items referred from last meeting….
1. Corporate stance and second Enrichment Day…no discussion
since these were presented by the Issues and Answers Committee
and they have not met.
2. Re-enliven the Deanery Meeting – Raleigh Deanary will continue
this on a regular basis (will make date and place known in case
any other sisters would like to join us). Other Deanaries need to
look at how they can support each other.
E. Old Business…
1. Avila Retreat Day…..Sr. Damian is concerned about low registra-
tion. Council asked Sr.
Margaret to make her aware of the fact
that this is a difficult weekend since many sisters are presenting
the Retirement Appeal in parishes throughout the diocese.
2. Council will ask Sr. Kitty to call and welcome the new sisters on
the Outer Banks.
3. Retirement Appeal… many more requests for religious women to
do the appeal this year; 3 parishes could not be provided with a
sister to speak. 35 sisters are speaking on
behalf of the appeal.
4. Evaluation of the past Enrichment Day….
- need to go to “prepay” next year and raise cost to at least $10;
we lost $300 for food for registrants who did not come. We will
make “scholarship money” available to those who would like to
attend enrichment day but are unable to pay. Suggestion was
given that the program allow time for a “proper prayer closure”.
F. New Business…
1.
Sr. Mary Margaret announced that she will be going to Mexico from
Feb. 1st – April 30th to work with her sisters there and to improve
her Spanish language skills.
2.
Several sisters shared experiences they have had at national
conferences since the last meeting.
Two books were offered for reading:
- “Brown” by Rodrigues
- “Unholy War: Terror in the Name of Islam” by Esposito
3.
The following items were suggested for the Feb. Agenda
- suggestions for 2005 speaker
- how will be choose the new co-chair for 2003-2005 |
