  • Opening Prayer … Sr. Mary Ann
  • Attendance … Bishop Burbidge, Msgr. Sherba, Srs. Mary Therese, Shirley, Joan, Chris, Arcadia, Mary Ann, Barbara Marie, Gerry, Mary Jean
  • Introduction of members to Sarah Edwards and Brad Watkins from the Diocesan Office of Vocations
  • Vocations …. announcements, suggestions, discussion
  • Much has been done to update the diocesan website in all areas of vocations … priesthood, and women and men religious
  • Fr. Ned and the office need help with representation by women religious in school presentations
  • Bishop Burbidge indicated that Vocation Directors from specific communities are always welcome in our diocese
  • The First Friday Group is NOT a discernment group; it is a prayer group for women’s vocations
  • It would be good if the sisters under the leadership of the Council could become involved in a "discernment group" for women
  • Could the Diocese consider an ad in VISION MAGAZINE
  • Use of the WEB is very important for vocations; that is where interested people are looking
  • Continue to send invitations for Jubilee to Campus Ministers and encourage them to bring a group of college students
  • Need for "discernment questions" on website … see a great example on the IHM.org website
  • Might we consider highlighting in the NC Catholics three sisters from our area who will be celebrating this summer….

  • Sister Ann Marie Teder, SND Silver Jubilee(CGHS graduate)

    Bishop Burbidge said the overage was approved for this year because of the overnight expenses which are not an ordinary occurrence.

  • Eucharistic Congress for sisters ….Bishop Burbidge read an announcement of the Eucharistic Congress for Sisters being sponsored by the Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious, Sept. 11-12 at the National Shrine

  • The Courage/Encourage workshop has been postponed because of the need to provide additional background to the faithful. Ongoing dialogue continues.
  • Stipend Freeze …. Sisters and the Priests council have accepted the diocesan recommendation for a salary freeze for the 2009-2010 fiscal year.
  • Jubilee Discussion …. Because of the cost of the reception at the Clarion we will look into the possibility of moving Jubilee to Our Lady of Lourdes.
  • At present we know the following Jubilarians for Jan. 30, 2010: Sr. Helene Therese McGroarty, IHM(50), Sr. Mary Jean Korejwo, SND(50); Sr. Brigid Dunne, SSL(she will not be present for the celebration0

  • Diocese is looking into the possibility of a photo electronic directory on the web for Diocesan Personal, Priests and Sisters
  • We thanked Sr. Mary Jean for her 10 years of service as Diocesan Coordinator of the Retirement Collection as she passed the torch to Sr. Anne Heath.
  • We thanked the election committee for all of its work and list here the new Council which will begin July 1, 2009.

  • A donation has been sent to the Sisters of Providence Retirement Fund in memory of Sr. Mary Zeno McGuirk from all the sisters in the Diocese.
  • Sisters leaving the Diocese this year are: Sr. Adria Connors, CSC, Sr. Veronica Fajardo, CSC, Sister Mary Catherine Mullaly, IHM, Sr. Susan Armbruster, IHM, Sr. Jaine Mary Elevathunka, SJSM, and Sr. Mary Leahy, FCJ. The Council will acknowledge their service with a small gift.
  • Sisters coming to the Diocese … Sr. Bindhu, SJSM and Sr. Jijy, SJSM joined the sisters in Southern Pines in October; Sr. Claudia Perez, DSMG, and Sr. Rosemary McNamara, SU(returning to the diocese).
  • The April 22nd meeting will begin at 11:30 … it will include a Ritual, Lunch, and a meeting. Please send agenda items to Sr. Barbara Marie.
